Andaz Still Dazzles in London

In November last year, we reported on the highly anticipating opening of the Hyatt Andaz hotel which was renovated from the old Great Eastern Hotel. The opening party, much like the hotel itself, was a lavishly decadent affair, with meticulous attention paid to every last detail- lucky party-goers even went home with a complimentary bottle of French champagne. Merci beaucoup!

Nearly four months on, we decided it was time to see if the hotel was living up to its own superior standards and judging by the reports on Trip Advisor, Andaz looks set to become la crème de la crème of five-star London hotels.

With compliments ranging from "A Lovely London Get-away" and "Best Hotel in London" to "This is the place to stay in London", we were hard-pressed to find a bad word written about the place. Until we came across Craig Walsh's review, that is.

Craig launched into an essay-length tirade on inattentive service and an unwanted 6.20am wake-up call, and was joined by a few others complaining about staff who were less than helpful.

Looks like that non-traditional "no front desk" policy seems to have ruffled a few travelers' feathers, but despite those few gripes it looks like the majority seems to be embracing Andaz's modern approach with open arms.

For me the Andaz Liverpool Street in London I loved it for its location and it's theme.
Having been to other countries where you have to wait in a seperate line for bags [during high season], then see about getting a local map [another queue] and then to the restaurant where you have to queue to book a time - a one person does all is far more useful in terms of 'time is money'. When you're on a flying visit, the amount of time you save if you have to work, it just pays for itself.
Based next to Liverpool Street Station and by car, the circular to Stansted you can't fault the location.
For me what wins it is the all inclusive pricing. This includes a minibar, breakfast, wi-fi, national calls, laundry services and of course the REN products in-room!
This means there's no arguing at the counter when you're checking out [especially for internet and telephone use]. For a busy, no-nonsense traveller like myself, it's a pity there's only 3 Andaz hotels. I think their philosophy is a good one!
