4,500 D.C. Hotel Rooms Now Available for the Inauguration

Hold the phone, folks: Despite countless reports to the contrary, it looks like there might be room at the inn after all in Washington, D.C. Some four to five million visitors are expected to flock to the inauguration festivities, but even so, the AP is reporting that according to tourism officials, around 1,400 hotel rooms are still available in and within 30 miles of Washington.
And today’s Washington Post has even bigger numbers. According to William A. Hanbury, president of tourism bureau Destination DC, there are now 1,500 vacant rooms inside the Beltway and 3,000 rooms beyond the Beltway. Those rooms became available last week when advance room contracts weren’t signed. Still, those vacancies aren’t lowering room rates, which average about $650 a night, a local tourism expert told the Post.
Just keep in mind that newly vacant rooms aren’t listed on travel websites, so you’d be wise to check with Destination DC for more info.
