Chicago Suburb Feels the Eco-Love with New Hotel Arista
While downtown Chicago is having fun with all their under development, it's nice to know that someone remembered the suburbs. In Naperville, a popular and large city just southwest of Chicago's limits, the newly soft-opened 144-room Hotel Arista finally offers a luxury option for those wishing to toggle between downtown and the outlets of the suburbs.
The Hotel Arista will be welcoming green gurus in addition to the usual shopping families and traveling businesspeople, as the hotel expects LEED certification for using 30% less water and 21% less energy than a typical property, while implementing a recycling program and cleanings with only chemical-free products. On top of the eco-chic, they're rolling out some features that smack of boutique hotels, such as a pillow menu, a scented "living room" lobby, and a "nosh box" instead of mini-bar, which will be stocked with local and organic food items.
Aside from their green practices, the Hotel Arista knows how to reel in the cultural history-loving Chicagoans; the hotel's clean structure was conceptualized by local architect Dirk Lohan, the grandson of Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe. Add to that a restaurant that specializes in no-nonsense cuisine (the chef says of his food: “I don’t stack, dribble, squirt or foam ... my recipe for great food is great product properly seasoned and properly cooked"), and the Hotel Arista seems a successful blend of downtown and the suburbs.
Weathering their soft-opening with the tempting low rates of $139 for a standard room or $189 for a suite, the Hotel Arista does face competition from another newcomer to the Chicago suburb scene: Aloft Hotel at O'Hare Airport. Luckily they are far enough away from each other to keep any possible rate wars at a minimum.
