Not willing to be left out of the inauguration hotel rate-gouging stewing in our nation's capital, an historic Hawaii hotel has come out with a fancy-schmancy inauguration package of its own.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu will unveil its multi-million dollar renovation on Tuesday, Jan. 20--you know, the same day the Aloha State’s new favorite native son gets crowned, er, sworn in as America’s 44th president. First opened in 1927, the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” is one of Waikiki’s most iconic institutions.

In tandem with the Hawaii Democratic Party, the Royal Hawaiian is offering a $1,800 Presidential Package, which includes four nights stay in a standard room, a bottle of pink bubbly (to match the hotel’s rosy facade), and two tickets to the Official Aloha Inaugural Ball in the hotel’s Monarch Room. Or, you can upgrade to a junior suite for a total cost of $2,760. (Hmmm. Clearly the hotel’s $19.27 package doesn’t apply.)

Not that we’re surprised. We suppose Hawaii deserves its share of presidential prestige for birthing Obama. And let's be honest, Hawaii is ever-so-much-more inviting in January than Washington, D.C.
