The Standard NYC Will Soft-Open December 10th

We just fell out of our chair. The Standard NYC, which is not even finished, will be opening a "handful of rooms" to a select group of friends and family on December 10th at $195 a night.

We know! It's crazy. The lobby isn't even finished. Nor are the top floors. But they are at least cognizant of this in the email that went out to special insiders:

The Standard, New York is opening its doors to a select group of friends and family on December 10th, 2008. We are opening a handful of rooms in the midst of an otherwise busy construction site, at rates starting at $195. The price includes complimentary Continental breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi and local calls, 24 hour concierge service and use of our lobby.

Room service will be available in early 2009. In the interim, guests will receive an in-room binder consisting of our favorite local restaurants which will provide delivery service.

As the hotel is still undergoing construction, these preview rates will be available until February 09.

Currently, the hotel website has no option to book online. Indeed, it still says "Opening Soonish" and apparently the hotel is still hiring staffers. But if you want to brave a night in the construction chic Standard, call 212-784-5530 or email nyreservations@standardhotel.com.
