Long-Awaited Shang Restaurant at Thompson LES is Open

Hooray! Shang, the long-awaited Thompson LES restaurant from Toronto chef Susur Lee, soft opens today.

There's no menu available on the bare-bones website yet, New York Mag had the scoop on what kind of menu items we might be able to expect from the renowned Hong Kong-born chef:

Shang loosely (and imaginatively) reflects the way Chinese emigrants have adapted their food over time. One example, the lobster-and-shrimp croquette, is akin to the Cantonese har gow, but wrapped in potato threads, deep-fried, and paired with a curry-leaf-flavored black-pepper sauce [...] He’s still tweaking the [Shang] menu, which will be à la carte, with an emphasis on sharing.

The "global Chinese" food concept has been taking reservations all week long, but we just called and there is still a teensy bit of space available for this evening: as of 11:45 a.m., they could accommodate a two-top at 6:00 or 8:45 tonight. Hit it up before it becomes too hard to snag a rezzie.
