Overheard at Art Basel: Andre Balazs Talking About His "Shack"

Blogger All Purpose Dark kindly sent over the link to her party report from Art Basel. And she got some good scoop. Starting off with what she overheard sexy hotelier Andre Balazs saying at the Raleigh Hotel for Kelly Klein's book party.

Highlight: Overhearing Balazs say to someone: "You can do that, you have a real house. I have a shack." Of course he does.

Hmm...what shack could he be talking about? The Maison Tropicale? Or could it be that he really has a shack somewhere? (Note: AB's version of a "shack" is probably still bigger than our apartment.)

At the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, the hotel's chef and now Top Chef contestant Jeff McInnis was on hand cooking up some fried haloumi cheese and mozzarella salad for the hotel's Master Mystery Art Show.

Later, APD headed to the finally-opened Mondrian South Beach for the partying honoring designer Marcel Wanders.

Where: Mondrian Miami Opening
Spotted: Marcel Wanders, Jeff Morr, Gil Dezer, the usual hoi polloi.
Highlight: The outdoor pool area which was spacious and crowd-free. The only saving grace of being indoors was the sublime DJ prowess of Alexander Dexter-Jones.

More celebs were in attendance at the Mondrian party too. Like Ivana Trump, Alex Rodriguez, Mary-Kate Olsen (who is now like a professional hotel opening guest) and Marilyn Manson. If you're interested, APD has two pics of the hotel in the daytime. It only has us salivating for more of the Mondrian SoBe. Like a room pic!

I canvassed the Design District and Wyndwood

Europeans a-plenty, no recognizable faces, although I opted out of seeing Marilyn Manson at his Trismegistus exhibit.  Why would I want to go look at pictures of Marilyn Manson again?
