Ring in 2009 With Sweaty People at Chicago's Drake Hotel
When one thinks of massive galas in the grand ballrooms of the historical Drake Hotel on Chicago's lakefront, the last thing that should come to mind is a mass of yuppies gyrating to cover bands. Yet on every New Year's Eve since 1999, four of The Drake's opulent ballrooms are filled to capacity with a combination of canapes, cocktails and cleavage.
It's arguably the largest NYE party in the Chicagoland area with over 2,000 in attendance, and according to their website, there are only fifty tickets left for the taking. The basic, party-only ticket goes for $175, but add on The Drake's holiday buffet for a total of $215, and that doesn't even include VIP treatment or one of the many after-parties. For those planning to party hardy, the only way to go is a Drake room package for $659, covering party access and a deluxe double room in one of the Grand Dame Hotels of the Gold Coast.
Whether you choose to spend your New Year's attempting to hit up all of the party's 45 fully-staffed bars or maneuvering to feel up just as many attendees, The Drake understands. The cause of your hangover even has a philanthropic side; a portion of the proceeds will benefit Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Olympics.
For last-minute tickets and a chance at the room special, read the specifics at The Drake's NYE page and book here.
