Amelia Island Offers Inauguration Escape Route for DC Residents
While the rest of the country flocks to Washington, D.C, this January for the presidential inauguration, we can think of more than a few D.C. residents who’d rather be somewhere – anywhere! – else. They might look to Amelia Island off the coast of northeastern Florida for their escape route.
That’s because seven island hotels have unveiled discounts just for residents of the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland, good Jan. 18 through Jan. 22. And unlike those Washington hotels jacking up their prices in the name of democracy, Amelia Island’s rates are actually affordable. Plus, it’s warm there. And there won’t be four million people threatening the city’s infrastructure.

· Amelia Island Plantation’s rooms are all 20 percent off, but you have to book by phone (866-481-5057).
· Basic rooms are just $99 at Ash Street Inn, thanks to their 45 percent discount on all rates.
· Get the second night half off on two-night stays or a third night free on three-night stays at Hoyt House.
· Summer Beach Resort slashes their rates 40 percent with a three-night minimum.
· Plus, you can get 25 percent off daily rates at Days Inn & Suites, or a standard room starting at $89 at Hampton Inn, Amelia Island.
