Sunday Special: The Standard NYC Soft Opens Today
We thought we'd never see the day: Andre Balazs' Standard NYC has actually opened when they said it would, even if today's date was like the gazillionth estimate. Earlier this morning in the snowy wasteland of New York's Meatpacking District, the paper came off of the lobby windows and the doors were unlocked to the public for the first time.
Although we haven't yet received any response from our online reservation inquiry, calling them up the old-fashioned way yields a live person who is finally able to book you a room with introductory "construction rates" starting at $195 a night. It's a little late to book a holiday stay in New York, but last-minute planners could totally benefit from this if having a working gym, restaurant, lounge and room service is not a top priority.
Until the Standard goes whole-hog with its grand opening in early 2009, guest access is restricted to finished floors, the lobby, and the vicinity of the complimentary continental breakfast.
Book 'em, Dano: 212-784-5530.
