Anyone who has ever stayed in the former Adams Mark Hotel in Denver (now a Sheraton) probably remember the two bronze horses that graced the main lobby. You better remember. They are 12 feet tall and weigh 2,500 pounds each! The stallion-duo was a centerpiece to the hotel's lobby and considered a stop on the Denver art scene. Not too surprisingly, the two horses didn’t fit in to well with Sheraton's current $70 million renovation of the property which will modernize the entire hotel, and the sculpture's biggest fan is ensuring it will never go to a scrap metal grave yard.

The Denver Post wrote about how the fiancée of an employee working on the renovation became upset when she found out the horses weren't going to be there after the renovation. Her soon-to-be husband said:

She fell in love with those horses years ago, and when she found out we were going to be taking them out of the building, we assumed they were going to be sent to the scrap yard. And she said, 'Absolutely not,"' he said. "I said I would do whatever I could to bring them home.

So after spending $5,000 on a crane, hiring a crew of six to remove windows and move the horses out of the lobby, they are now on the couples' property. Their final resting place will be at the foot of their driveway welcoming any visitors to their farm where they also have four other live horses.

Denver?

I find it strange that someone spent money to salvage two useless bronze horses, but no one managed to salvage the IM Pei designed building that was once adjacent to this hotel many years ago.
