Fairmont's Willow Stream Spa Massages Make "Economic Scents"

Every hotel seems to have its own form of relief (escape?) to offer guests during this terrible recession. Eat chocolate! Drink booze! Stay two nights, get the third free!

So it’s only natural that spas would be touted as the perfect way to unwind from whatever economic misery ails you. Or at least that’s presumably the thinking behind the new offering by Fairmont's Willow Stream Spas, dubbed Economic Scents. Basically, guests who book a 60- or 90-minute aromatherapy massage get a free candle (choice of either Willow Stream Energy or Willow Stream Balance). So when guests go home, they can “rekindle memories from the spa.”

We’re not convinced that the scent of a candle — no matter how reinvigorating — will help you relax when you’re back home paying your bills. But at least they thought of a clever name (what can we say, we’re suckers for a good pun!). And let’s be honest, a freebie is a freebie.

Willow Stream Spas are located at 10 spots around the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Switzerland, the U.A.E., and Singapore. And with each spa treatment purchase, spa-goers get full access to the facilities — which, depending on your location, could include steam, sauna, or inhalation rooms; waterfall or mineral pools; relaxation rooms; and healthy snacks.

Prices vary based on location ($139 for an hour massage at the Fairmont Turnberry; $179 for the same at the Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda).
