An Epic Year for Miami Ends With the Opening of Epic Hotel

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 270 Biscayne Blvd Way [map], Key Biscayne, FL, United States, 33131

2008 has been pretty big for the Miami hotel scene: the Mondrian and who could forget the much-hyped reopening of the Fontainebleau?

And today, another one for the books: the first property in Miami for Kimpton Hotels, The Epic Hotel & Residences opens in Biscayne Bay on this oh-so-epic Monday.

The hotel is located on floors 18-30 of the building (hola, potentially-killer views of the bay), and on the 29th and 30th floors are club level rooms and a club lounge. We also know that the 15,000 square-foot Exhale Spa won't be done until January, and the website provides absolutely no details about the property's restaurants or lounges (but we gather that they will have at least one of each).

Rates for tonight start at $299 and it looks like there's still some availability — that is, if you can deal with the fact that the hotel has hopped on the inexplicable unique capitalization train and insists on printing its name in ALL CAPS everywhere, thus reminding you of a frat-tool college boy who tends to refer to every person, place or event as "EPIC."

    This may seem picky...

The folks who actually live in Key Biscayne probably wouldn't be happy hearing this hotel is on the Key. It's not. It's just off the financial district of downtown Miami and about an 8 mile ride to Key Biscayne.

    It is on the bay

it's a monster of a building in the northeast of Biscayne Blvd. and the little bridge into Brickell.  I guess calling it EPIC (in all caps) is no worse than calling it aloft (with no caps).
