We've been anxiously awaiting the opening of Encore Las VegasSteve Wynn's followup to perennial HotelChatter favorite The Wynn — which will be comin' atchya in just over a week (December 22nd).

You know who else is very anxiously awaiting the grand opening of Encore? Why, Steve Wynn himself, of course. And he seems to be getting a little bit restless while counting down the days because he pulled a shenanigan we'd expect from one of the haughty, mega-diva boutique hoteliers (not naming names) and not so much something we'd expect from ol' Steve-o.

You see, across the street from The Encore is a piece of property that used to be the home of the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, which closed in July of '07 and was imploded spectacularly a few months afterward. In its place will be that Plaza Hotel and Casino we mentioned (yes, like the New York Plaza), but for now all that's left of the New Frontier was its old sign. Er, scratch that: all that was left.

According to an Associated Press article, Steve Wynn was not feelin' that sign and wanted it to be gone before his Encore opened directly across the street. We're not sure if by removing the sign he wanted to symbolically declare that his hotel was truly conquering Vegas's "new frontier" or what (actually, that could have been a cool publicity move) — but the move kind of comes off as a little bit divalicious, especially since a Wynn team went onto the property and removed the sign themselves (with permission, of course).

And just what does one do with a giant sign like that? Well, according to the New Frontier's Wikipedia page, the sign will eventually live the rest of its life at the Neon Museum. But this Wikipedia page also has the word "Paradise" in place of "Las Vegas" in a couple of spots, so...

Paradise, NV

Most of the Las Vegas "strip" sits on county owned land in the town of Paradise.  Las Vegas doesn't technically start until Sahara.  As for the sign, this  didn't even give a courtesy call to the museum or the city before he waved his magic wand, and the sign is mostly a complete loss and scrap.

Steve Wynn needs to get over himself.
