We’ve heard whispers about the new Kimpton hotel coming soon to the Washington, D.C., area, but we’ve now received official word (and an opening date!): the $50-million Lorien Hotel & Spa is set to open Feb. 12, 2009, in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Marketed as Kimpton’s “crown jewel” in the Washington metro area, the 107-room hotel will reportedly “celebrate the story of dreams.” That means perks like a 24-hour “dream” button on guestroom phones, which goes straight to the concierge who can help coordinate the guest’s every happiness, apparently. Plus, a “Dream Service Menu” features comfort foods as well as bath, aromatherapy, and pillow options available via room service.

The so-called dreamy guestrooms were designed by Vicente Wolf and are painted robin's egg blue, gray, and white. The look is classic meets modern--in other words, claw-foot bathtubs and rainfall showers in suites.

But our favorite part is the Terrace Suites, which are, uh, suites that have huge terraces (up to 700 square feet) stocked with couches and seating perfect for stargazing and party-hosting. The hotel’s “Terrace Menu” includes options ranging from wine tastings and alfresco dining to dance lessons, sleeping bags, and telescopes.

Plus, the Lorien will be Old Town Alexandria’s first full-service spa, with five treatment rooms, two steam rooms, and a dream-inspired treatment menu that features organic and paraben-free Kerstin Florian products. A foodie trifecta by chef Robert Wiedmaier includes a 105-seat Belgian-American restaurant, 43-seat European-style tasting room, and a wine and cheese shop.

Rates start at $329. No word yet on whether any special introductory rates will be available, or, for that matter, how solid that opening date is.

I hate to do this, but...

That headboard is a dusting nightmare. Poor staffers.... :(

    Looks fantastic, I agree.

But still I might prefer the more central Old Town location of the Monaco (Kimpton).

    Kimpton's Architect of Record

The architect of record for the Kimpton is Baskervill out of Richmond, Va. (www.baskervill.com).  They did a fabulous job with the interior architecture with the guest rooms, meeting rooms, restaurant, spa, and winebar.  The coordinated extensively with famed interior designer Vincente Wolf, performing room fits.  (www.baskervill.com)
