We caught chef Todd English's cooking segment on this morning's Today Show and — surprise! — he taught us (and the rest of America) how to make a dish from his brand new Gild Hall restaurant, Libertine ... for less than $8.00! It's a holiday miracle!

We always knew the prices of hotel meals were kicked up, but dayum! According to a Gild Hall staffer we spoke to, this entree sells for $22.00 on the restaurant's dinner menu ($16.00 for the lunch portion).

The dish, a yummy-looking lamb pot pie (which received rave reviews from Men.Style.com and Restaurant Girl), is a big, warm puff pastry filled with a hearty lamb stew that will warm you up on a chilly winter's day.

Both the recipe and the complete segment are available on the Today Show website here, but a bit of warning: not that we're culinary experts or anything, but we're pretty sure this is a slightly simplified version of the official Libertine recipe (okay, we're totally sure). This recipe calls for a plain ol' buttery puff pastry, while Restaurant Girl described an "unusual, harissa-spiced dough" on the pot pie served to her in the dining room.

Is that special dough worth the extra $14.00 when you order the dish in English's bromantic hotspot? We think not.

Unfortunately, now we're going to be spending upwards of $30.00 altogether when we attempt to whip up the homemade pot pie and then we go eat the Libertine version. You know, to compare the two. All in a day's work.
