Even though all construction on Starwood Capital's 1 Hotel and Residences thoughout the country have been put on hold, we came across new photos and demolition activity on the site of the 1 Hotel Washington DC.

Perseus Realty, LLC, the developer of the 1 Hotel Washington DC recently posted a new rendering (above) of the hotel on their website and changed the project status to "Current Projects." Up until now, we've only seen pictures of a small corner of the hotel and it's been listed as under development since earlier this year.

Not only that, but DC Metrocentric, a blog focusing on real estate in Washington DC posted the image below, showing demolition of the former Nigerian Embassy clearing the way for the 1 Hotel to be built.

For those who need a refresher: Starwood Capital & Perseus Realty were building a 1 Hotel on this site which would include 180 rooms, a B.R. Guest Restaurant, and a spa, with the overall architectural design by Chad Oppenheim. Originally due to open in 2010, all estimates were thrown out the window once the credit markets went haywire.

With all this news, we still haven't heard anything about when construction of the hotel will begin or when it's scheduled to open, but with the updates on Perseus's website and the recent demolition activity, it might just be sooner than we expected.

I think the people who live and play in Buckhead would get a good chuckle about Streets of Buckhead "putting them on the map." Buckhead has probably been the most famous neighborhood in Atlanta since long before I moved there in 1991. As for more hotels, can't see the need. As wonderful as Atlanta is {I moved away in 2001 and still wondering why} it's not a great place to vacation, just a terrific place to live.
