While we waited ever so patiently for Nov. 4th to pass, we hardly noticed it was, uh, November. In fact, it’s sorta-kinda almost Thanksgiving, which means the holiday season is about to infiltrate every last cranny of your life (much like Sarah Palin did the last two months, but with fewer Tina Fey impersonations).

In other words: It’s time to shop. And what better way to celebrate our new “socialist” government than with a holiday to Sweden? (We joke!) If you agree--and we think you should--consider the Grand Hôtel Stockholm (AKA the “official Nobel Prize hotel” since 1901).

The supreme stay in Sweden by many accounts, the Grand has a couple of wintertime packages that are making us all swoony with sugarplum dreams, starting with the “Christmas Shopping in SoFo” package, which runs now through Dec. 21. (SoFo=South of Folkungagtan Street--the mimicking of SoHo knows no boundaries.)

Located smack on the harbor’s bank in the central part of Stockholm, the Grand is positioned perfectly for trendy shopping. And since the package includes a personal shopper tag-along, you’ll have expert help navigating the area’s best shops and boutiques. The package also includes breakfast, lunch, and transport to and from SoFo, starting at $925 (at that price, though, we’re not sure how much cash you’ll have left over to actually shop).

Or, the Grand Hôtel’s “Christmas Market in Stockholm” package provides entrance tickets to Skansen, the Swede’s favorite open-air museum and home to a huge Christmas market that dates back to 1903 (think traditional handicrafts, candy, mulled wine, deli treats, dancing, et al). Prices start at $350 and include a complimentary glass of wine toddy at the hotel’s Cadier Bar, plus access to the Health Club and free WiFi. The package runs Nov. 19 through Dec. 14.

Just remember this is Stockholm in the winter, which means only a few hours of daylight a day and cold temps. Pack a fuzzy parka and a light box.
