The Setai San Diego (remember, no relation to the Miami Beach property) will be opening next month in the city's downtown area and this isn't just some hack property that grabbed the Setai name. The Setai will probably end up being THE luxury hotel in San Diego and by luxury hotel we don't mean the kind that our parents and grandparents like. No, we mean the kind that we like.

The standouts at this hotel seem to be its suite offerings. There are 37 suites--17 of those are one-bedroom suites and 20 are luxe suites which come with full Italian kitchens, Miele and Sub Zero appliances, full living rooms, balconies, private bedrooms and baths. South-facing suites will have balconies with floor to ceiling windows that open to give guests views of the city, ocean and bay.

But the real star is the Grand Penthouse Suite, one of three penthouse suites. This is apparently going to be the largest on the West Coast.

According to a press release:

In addition to numerous custom made features, the 8,000 square-foot Grand Penthouse consists of three bedrooms and three full baths, a full Italian kitchen, dining room, full bar, six flat screen TVs, and a rooftop patio terrace complete with private sundeck, Jacuzzi soaking tub, chaise-lounge beds, water features, a private massage area, and amazing 360 degree views.

We really wish we could see some pics but the hotel's website has not uploaded any photos. We also tried to go online to see what the rate might be for a night in this place but the online reservations system was not taking requests. That's interesting (ominous?) because we totally found rooms available for Dec. 17th at $300 a night a few weeks ago.

For now, the Setai website is asking guests to call their reservations line to make their bookings. With the "special" rate starting at $300 a night for a regular old room, we think that penthouse suite is going to require some serious cash. If people still have that these days.
