The Five Best Hotels for the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

November 3, 2008 at 1:06 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

It's that time of the year again--The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And the annual tradition on HotelChatter has been to round up the best hotels with views of the parade. We've come up with a new batch this year but just in case, you can peruse our previous selections here.

As we were writing this, we found that a lot of hotels in Manhattan along the parade route have availability and most were asking for reasonable prices (considering it's Manhattan during the Macys parade.) However, the rates may change as Thanksgiving gets closer so remember, the early bird totally gets the best part of the stuffing here.

Six Columbus: Thompson Hotels's Six Columbus is situated near the top of the parade route in Columbus Circle. We're not quite sure if you can get a room overlooking the circle but you can just as easily skip down to the front of the hotel and watch the parade roll on by.
Starting Room Rate: $305 a night for a queen superior.

Stay.Hotel: The former Quality Inn-turned-Vikram Chatwal hotel is located just off Broadway, where the parade cruises for about a good 20 blocks. The room options here can accommodate both families ($419 a night for an extra-large room with two full beds) and the couple that doesn't mind sharing a full bed in an extra-small room.
Starting Room Rate: $259 a night.

Hotel Metro: We so wish the rooftop at this hotel was gonna be open on Thanksgiving day, otherwise it would be the perfect place to watch the parade. However, the hotel is still only two blocks off from Herald Square, where the flagship Macy's store stands and where the parade ends.
Starting Room Rate: $310 a night for a superior queen.

Renaissance Times Square: Usually most hotels in Times Square should be avoided but the Renaissance did just undergo a big renovation. The hotel also has a restaurant and lounge with views over Times Square, where the parade will pass. We couldn't confirm if the restaurant would be open but the hotel did have rooms available with partial views of the parade.
Starting Room Rate: $475 a night for 1 king or double beds.

On the Ave Hotel: This Upper West Side hotel is at 77th and Broadway, just one block away from where the parade kicks off. The floats also will be setting up here the day before so you can mosey on over and check them out. We liked this hotel because it's out of the way of the Times and Herald Squares mess and because they are offering 15 percent off on rooms from November 16-30th.
Starting Room Rate: $339 a night for a standard room.

    Six Columbus

I've stayed at the Six Columbus and it really is a nice hotel. The rooms are very warm in terms of color and furniture. If I remember correctly they have a rooftop bar but I doubt it would be open at that time of day or year. However, who wouldn't enjoy seeing the crowds and possibly the balloons while drinking a Hot Toddy?
