Stranded at the Airport Over Thanksgiving? Check-In At These Hotels

November 25, 2008 at 6:17 PM | by | Comments (0)

Tomorrow is going to be a big travel day with people hopping planes left and right to make it home for some turkey and stuffing. Everyone except those of you who decided to stop the madness and stay put. (Brave souls you are for not giving into the family guilt trips.)

But if you are traveling tomorrow, you are taking the risk of your plane being oversold, cancelled, delayed or all of the above.

Just in case this does happen to any of you poor unfortunate souls tomorrow, here's a bunch of Airport Hotels that would be worth checking in to--preferably comped by the airline who failed you.

See the full list after the jump.

Dallas
Grand Hyatt at DFW: This hotel was voted Expedia's number one hotel. We've toured the hotel over the summer and were impressed with the serenity of the rooms, the geeky high-tech touch-screen menus in the restaurant and the 24-hour coffee bar.

Chicago
Intercontinental O'Hare: Chicago is one of the busiest airports and if you're stuck here (which you probably will be), hit up this swank hotel for a night. The hotel is pretty brand-new and when we last checked it had some kinks that it was working through. So to be safe, bring your own booze.

Los Angeles
Hilton Garden Inn at LAX: This hotel has a secret wing where Diamond HHonors members can test out the future room prototypes--i.e. the stuff that isn't in regular Garden Inns yet.
Sheraton Gateway LAX: Normally, we'd balk at staying at a Sheraton hotel near the airport but this one is actually managed by Kor Hotels and has a cool boutique feel inside (the outside is still fug.) Even better, you can book a room without having to spend the night.

Montreal
Aloft Montreal: Should you get delayed in Montreal do two things. One, blame Canada. Two, check-in to the Aloft here. You'll be staying in a piece of history as this was the first-ever Aloft hotel to open.

International
Yotel at Gatwick and Heathrow Airports: Anyone flying in from overseas or just taking advantage of the holiday from work should consider the "rooms" at Yotel during a lengthy delay. The rooms are actually more like cool-looking boxes but they can be rented by the night or the hour. Some even feature a retractable bed and all have mood lighting.

Also good for international flyers is the CitizenM at Amsterdam Schiphol and the high-tech Sofitel London at Heathrow's T5. And we wouldn't mind spending a night at the Radisson SAS Zurich which features Europe's tallest wine tower.

Other Options
· Westin Renewal Lounges at JFK, LAX and SFO United Terminals.
· Pitch a tent. Seriously. And then take a picture of yourself and send it to us.
