Last night we touched down in unseasonably cold NYC and hailed a cab to our digs for the next few days, Thompson LES. When it first opened, we had our very own talented Jenna check out the place. And she liked it. She really liked it.

We however, were trying to be more reserved when we checked in. But we too, were also surprised by how much we like this place. (After a while in this gig, you learn not to have any expectations of hotels, let alone good ones.)

It probably started with the deal we got here. We paid $170 a night via Quikbook.com for a superior queen/king room and we got a studio suite. We could be staying two blocks away in a closet at the Gem Soho for $189 a night.

The room is spacious and seductive (those are beaded curtains separating the bed from the sitting area), the wireless is free, room service is finally in effect and turndown includes two Fat Witch Bakery brownies and two bottles of Voss water.

Our only complaints so far is that at times we smell cigarette smoke. No one has smoked in our room but they could be smoking next door. Or we could be just crazy. Also, there is no fitness center on site. The hotel has a partnership with Ludlow fitness which is four blocks away. You pay $10 and have all-day access. Instead we just hoofed it around the neighborhood for 45 minutes visiting the Whole Foods and the Duane Reade.

The Shang restaurant is opening in just a few weeks but we have our eyes on the Sugar cafe and Epstein's Bar, both on the same block as the hotel, for our next meals. And about the Warhol pool? Hello, it's freezing out. We probably won't even care when this opens. So long as it's done before Memorial Day. Hint, Hint, Jason and co.
