Hilton's Expands Its"Requests Upon Arrival" To All

November 24, 2008 at 10:00 AM | 0 Comments

We're not sure what it means when we hear that Hilton Hotels have expanded their Requests Upon Arrival program from special HHonors members to any ordinary folk who book a room; either it was a raging success or not enough loyalty club people were using it.

Either way the point of the program is to anticipate any needs we might have and give us the option to request stuff before we arrive. Hilton divides it all up into Complimentary, Food & Beverage and Miscellaneous sections.

Complimentary includes pillow menus or extra towels--basically the kind of stuff you might otherwise call down to reception for and wait around until someone brought them to your room. Food & Beverage is a glorified minibar and room service: for example, the sample Request Upon Arrival list for the Doubletree San Diego Mission Valley offers Coronas for $5.75 and Mediterranean Wraps for $13.00.

Your Miscellaneous requests might include adding a microwave to your room, or organizing a mini birthday party with two pieces of cake--these things will cost you, of course. It's a fine line here: a hotel chain that makes it sound like it's doing something nice for its guests, but on the other hand, it sounds like a get rich quick scheme. But we're just kidding ourselves if we thought we'd get something for nothing.
