We think this is pretty weird. Hotel guests are encouraged to vote on their favorite creations with opportunities to double their votes by dining at Jer-ne or signing up for spa treatments. Considering the Ritz describes their clientele as mostly business travelers, we're not sure why this is even happening for a fraternity formal. We'd like to imagine plucky frat boys talking the Ritz into it. "Come on! We need a ballroom for our formal!" they may have cried.
The event is the first of what the Greeks and hotel staff hope will be a new tradition and relationship between Loyala Marymount University and the Ritz Carlton. Executive Chef Chad Minton called it "something elegantly hip" and hopes that the Gingerbread Joust, along with potential future events, will "showcase the original works of Matisse in our lobby."
Ohhhh. Maybe it's because they have original Matisse in the lobby? We didn't even notice. We were too distracted by the gingerbread "art."
