Despite What Zagat Says, Country at the Carlton Did Not Close

Whoops! Looks like Zagat made a bit of a mistake when they reported in their 2009 U.S. Hotels Survey that the restaurant Country at the Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue had closed.

A Carlton tipster has let us know that Country — formerly divided into two elements: the Dining Room at Country and the Cafe at Country — didn't close at all. The restaurant has actually just rebranded:

The Dining Room at Country offered a fine dining prix fixe menu while the Café at Country offered a more casual a la carte experience. The restaurant is now just Country.

What used to be the upstairs dining room has been converted over to become the focal point of Country's private dining and events space, while the lower level remains a la carte, now brings with it the fine dining experience, but in a more casual and accessible atmosphere.

Still, we noticed that Country's website was divided up into the two parts (the Dining Room and the Cafe), so we're a little bit confused about this whole rebranding process ourselves.

Also, a confession: we hopped over to the website just for a quick look-see, but we've kept it open in our browser for almost an hour just listening to the site's music which, for some reason, we're really feelin' on this chilly Wednesday. But we're glad the jams kept us on the site, because we happened to stumble upon this 3-course $24 prix-fixe lunch Country (the new, rebranded one) is offering until Friday, November 21st.
