Unless We're Vong, Thompson LES's Shang is Close to Opening
Some more details about Shang, the 130-seat restaurant on its way to the Thompson LES from renowned chef Susur Lee, have come to us via the New York Observer and it's looking like it's getting close to opening (on schedule, even!)
The vision, straight from Pomeranc:
“We’re going to be doing what we call a global Chinese food concept,” said the Thompson’s owner, Jason Pomeranc, Mr. Lee’s partner in the new restaurant, which will occupy the entire second floor of the trendy 22-story inn. “It’s essentially Chinese in character but integrates the progress of Asian food as it went through different areas into Thailand, Vietnam, et cetera.”
Susur Lee, a Hong Kong-born chef who has two restaurants in Toronto, was courted by Mr. Pomeranc who wanted him on board with the Thompson LES project because he was, in JP's words, “one of the world’s most innovative Asian chefs.”
The resto is slated to open in December and we're pretty sure it will happen on time, considering Shang's space was ready enough to host to a party on Monday night that included culinary A-listers like Gourmet editor in chief Ruth Reichl, Daniel Boulud and Tom Colicchio.
