If you're heading out to Colorado for skiing this year, at least swing by and check out Telluride's historic New Sheridan Hotel, which originally opened back in 1891 and is slated to reopen on December 20th after a $7 million renovation. Yeah, we know: $7 million doesn't sound like a ridiculous makeover compared to some hotels' billion-dollar revamps, but this hotel has less than 30 rooms to work with.

In addition to giving the 26 guest rooms and 2 suites a "luxurious makeover," the common spaces and restaurant got a major facelift too:

A new nitrogen wine bar system and additional wine storage at The Chop House have allowed the restaurant to expand its wine list and offer an impressive variety of selections by the glass.

The project has also uncovered a mezzanine-level balcony in the New Sheridan bar that has been walled off for several decades. Once a small performance area for bands, guests will be able to relax with a cocktail in the new edition of the balcony.

And good news for people-watching addicts who like to entertain themselves apres-ski by watching everyone else: the restaurant relocated its kitchen to create more space for window seats overlooking Telluride’s main street.

Rooms after December 20th start at $399; check out the full list of room rates here. And hopefully they've made some improvements to the guest experience, too — because last we heard, things weren't lookin' so great.

    Nitrogen Wine Bar

It'll actually keep opened bottles fresher, longer and allow people to get glasses of higher end wine without having to purchase a whole bottle. Pretty sweet system actually- exposes more people to more wines that they wouldn't always be able to get tastings of, or glasses for that matter. Thanks for the post ladies!!!!

    And just to be clear...

That review cited in the LAST WE HEARD link was from three years ago.  There are plenty of more timely reviews that people can see from 2007 and sooner. And with this new renovation new, improved sound proofing has been installed so this will not be a problem moving forward. Thanks again Hotel Chatter folk!!
