Inauguration Hotels You Can Actually Afford, From $135

November 13, 2008 at 10:30 AM | 3 Comments

If you’re like us, you might be having a tough time stomaching those hefty inauguration hotel rates being thrown every which way in D.C. (75G for a bulletproof suite at the Hyatt Regency? Come on, folks, we’d like to start keeping down solid foods one of these days.)

Fortunately, a roundup of affordable inaugural lodging (starting at $135!) just landed in our inbox. Courtesy of Shermans Travel Media, we present a few hotels in D.C. that haven’t totally lost their marbles. Just remember that vacant rooms are already few and hard to come by, so the following hotels are available and affordable, not necessarily convenient or particularly swank.

· Days Inn Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel: Um, yeah. This hotel is in Baltimore, a solid 45-minute drive on a good day. But at just $135 a night, it just might be worth renting a car.

· Doubletree Hotel Bethesda: Within walking distance of the Metro* just outside the District, the Doubletree’s $299 per night rate isn’t bargain basement but it’s not too shabby either. And as far as suburbs go, you could do a lot worse than Bethesda. *Just don’t say we didn’t warn you that Metro will be hellish that week.

Now, we have a hard time categorizing a hotel rate above $400 as a deal, but we’d be remiss not mentioning the other two hotels offering more reasonable rates: Georgetown Inn ($429) and Hotel Monaco Alexandria ($442).

Seriously, though, wait much longer and your only options will involve sweet talking strangers via Craigslist.

    Taking the Biden Hotel Package

I'm snagging a room at the Courtyard in Wilmington and riding Amtrak all the way down to DC.
