Sheraton Fiji Has Cool Pool But Half-Finished Rooms

The Sheraton Fiji Resort re-opened this month after a $22 million renovation, and the concept pics gave us high hopes about the results, especially when it came to the swimming pool.

The pool is now a 13,000 square-foot lagoon and it has three sections, meaning that noisy, splashing kids get banished to one part of it (we hope), and we can do the relaxed, sunbathing thing somewhere far away. Apparently they also have underwater day seats and overwater hammocks, two features that get us a bit giddy because, well, in case you haven’t guessed, we love good hotel pools.

But there are a few post-renovation (or perhaps, still mid-renovation) blues going down at the Sheraton Fiji.

Guests who’ve been there this month say renos are nowhere near as complete as the hotel would like to make out:

Half of the hotel rooms are not completed (currently in the gutted out stage).

And there are some comments on TripAdvisor from repeat visitors that say the resort’s old food quality and service problems haven’t been solved. Two lessons here: wait another few months to make sure they’re good and finished, and don’t eat in house. Unless you’re swingin’ in that overwater hammock.

Sheraton Fiji Resort - WOW what a change

After reading this post I just had to leave a comment.

I have returned from a weeks holiday in Fiji just two days ago and all I can say is WOW! I stayed at the Sheraton Fiji for my entire trip and I can't fault it.  Having stayed at the resort a few years back, I was absolutely amazed with the transformation.  Since its reno the hotel is so modern and hip, and from my experience the service was spot on.

From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, the service was great - I especially enjoyed the Staff that remembered me from my trip a few years prior.  The rooms were very comfortable (I want that bed!), the restaurants were so different to anything else on the Island.  The buffet restaurant is so bright with the most amazing mosaic and a great mix of food, while Flying Fish (sister to the one in Sydney) was superb and has some of the same dishes (and what a setting right on the beach - we watch the sunset at the bar their many of the nights).

The Pool -  What a huge change, and it is even better in the evening with the beautiful lights reflecting on it, however the best part was having the dedicated kids area at one end and the adults area / quiet area at the other (this was where we chose to spend most of our days).

As for only being half finished - Not at all!
    The resort was truly stunning.
