Welcome to Room Rate Drop Watch where we chronicle the plummeting prices at hotels that once commanded top dollar rates. These are often found in big cities with seemingly more hotel rooms than visitors like Las Vegas. But sometimes you can get lucky in the city of your choice. The Raleigh is one of our choice hotels in South Beach. It's got free wireless, cool amenities, a happening pool scene and fashion shows.

Room rates are always dropping in South Beach in the off-season (of which we are winding down here) so their latest "Autumn Escape" deal isn't a major drop. Still, the hotel is offering Ocean Room Views for $225 a night plus complimentary valet parking and 20 percent off at the hotel's Terrace restaurant which is sporting a new lunch and dinner menu.

Three years ago in November, a room with a partial ocean view on the side of the building was going for $239 a night. Over the summer--the major off-season--rooms were about $250 a night. Sounds good to us. The deal is good until Dec. 25th and you must use booking code "Autumn" when booking.
