Thompson Partners With Cornell to Breed Baby Pomerancs

November 10, 2008 at 9:00 AM | by | Comment (1)

Cornell University's renowned School of Hotel Administration (full disclosure: this HC-er's alma mater, where she learned everything she knows about hotels that the Internet couldn't teach her) has just announced a partnership between its Center for Hospitality Research and Thompson Hotels.

Thompson's co-owner, Stephen Brandman, will now sit on the research center's advisory board, contributing his insights and hopefully sharing the secrets to the "sophisticated but personal approach to service" Thompson is known for.

Turning the Cornell Hotel School into a breeding ground for baby Jason P's, perhaps? Maybe...

But maybe not. We know what the Center is all about -- and they do lots of academic studies and hold industry roundtables, but have significantly less interaction with the aspiring Pomerancs that are stomping around those hallowed halls than, say, the average professor or lecturer.

But we'll bet the news of Thompson joining forces with the Hotel School is going over well, and we certainly wouldn't have a tough time finding an ambitious young boutique-hotelier-wannabe downing a can of Natty Light in celebration of this announcement and polishing his coolest cufflinks in anticipation of meeting the men behind the Thompson brand. Even if it's only to shake hands, schmooze and ask for a job.

And, um, insert some "Cornell -- ever heard of it?" joke from The Office here.
