Located some 175 miles northeast of the Grand Canyon, the 95-room hotel implements eco-friendly building practices, such as standard "green" hotel tactics like low-flow water devices and fluorescent lighting. More notably, perhaps, the building's low contour is designed to conform to the natural mesa site--which we guess explains its questionable hot orange aesthetic.
With 90 percent local Native Americans filling out the hotel staff, the owners hope the new jobs will help heal the Navajo Nation's abysmal economy (unemployment hovers near 50 percent). Another nice touch: Local Navajo artwork will hang on the View's walls.
Even better? Each room features a private balcony facing the Mittens and rates are reasonable, ranging from $95 to $195 (and yes, reservations are now open).
As for whether the hotel will make good on its Dec. 6 opening promise, we guess we'll just have to offer the View the same level of trust we always reserve for hotels and their opening date promises. Yeah, that'll be the day.
