Maxim Magazine's Maxim Bungalows No More

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1 Paradise Drive, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Could it be that the Maxim Bungalows in the Dominican Republic, which has only been open for a little over a six months, has closed?

A tipster let us know that the website wasn't working and indeed when we clicked the URL, it sent us to a GoDaddy.com page. GoDaddy is a URL purchasing site and while somebody does own the Maxim Bungalows URL, there's no info nor any redirection going on here. So we just had to find out what was up.

We emailed a rep for the hotel who was working for the hotel as of June 2008 but we've didn't receive an answer. So we did some Googling and found a grand opening party from August. Plus the Social Restaurant just opened there this past April. Seems unlikely the place would just shut down, right?

Alas, we found the answer to our question inside the NY Post. The paper reported that the resort dropped the name because the name Maxim wasn't generating much traffic as they anticipated. It may have even turned people off:

"We have dropped the Maxim name as it was not generating the traffic that we had expected from them," says Joaquin Dueñas with Elliott Hospitality & Real Estate, which is running the bungalows.

And there's your answer. The hotel now goes by Confresi Bungalow Resort and the new website is thebungalows.com.

    Over - Rated

I went to confressi and they where just setting up the whole maxim bungalow thing. Yes the units where incredible but the whole thing was just really over-priced for not that much luxury.
    It was really over-rated.
