While the official opening date isn't until "the end of the month," the Cooper Square is in the midst of a soft opening. There was recently a party thrown for Keira Knightley's new movie The Duchess -- and an inside source that attended the soiree reported a sleek, completed lobby and a few finished rooms on display.
The verdict? The lobby was very swanky and chock full of ... books. Seriously, we hear there are books upon books in the lobby (we assume this is the much-hyped "library"), and -- get this -- in the rooms that were open during the party, our tipster found vintage Playboy magazines near the (gigantic) flatscreen TV's. Ballsy (no pun intended) and kind of awesome, no?
As the hotel is in its "soft opening stages," one of our sources tried to secure a room:
I wanted to get a room early November (sent an email via the website) here is the answer I got from the hotel reservation office:
"opening rate" e.g. the hotel is still undergoing a "soft opening" ; certain outlets of the hotel will not be available, i.e. the bar and restaurant.
· Cooper one room, which is furnished with a queen bed and overlooks the courtyard at $275.00 per night.
· Cooper 4 room: a larger room with a king bed and views of Manhattan, that would be available in our at $375.00 per night.
This is surreal. People are actually booking rooms at the Cooper Square. We never thought this day would come.
