A Rio Hotel and Casino staffer was quoted by a Reuters reporter as saying, "My life now is, if I'm not stripping or at the pool, I'm sleeping."

Well, wait. She's kind of a Rio staffer. Technically, she's part of a fleet of strippers that the Rio now stocks poolside.

See, the property has established a partnership with the nearby Sapphire gentleman's club -- the first hotel/stripclub partnership of its kind. Essentially, Sapphire strippers are offered incentives by the club and perks by the hotel to take off their tops and sit by the adults-only pool to lure dudes to the Rio (and probably to the strip club later on).

Sigh. Where to even begin...

According to the Reuters article:

The idea is for the women to attract men who will stick around and gamble at the Rio's tables. The Sapphire Pool charges men $30 to $50 admission and is fenced off from the Rio pool, where the women keep their swimsuit tops on.

In return for their physically taxing and intellectually stimulating work of sunbathing and drinking cocktails, the Sapphire ladies get free poolside food and drinks and the opportunity to "network" -- as in, promote themselves to lure the fat-wallet-carrying dudes to their club later.

You stay classy, Rio.

    Only in Vegas?

Over at the Hotel Hotsheet, Kitty posted something a few weeks back asking why it is that strip hotels haven't yet allowed in strippers.  Oddly enough, most respondents did not see it as a business question, but rather as a question of societal, and moral, degradation.  Rio is doing what it can to grab market share and grow its business.  If anything can be said for them, at least, they are letting us all know that they do this so we can choose to stay away if we prefer.
