Philly to Get a Waldorf-Astoria Hotel

October 31, 2008 at 10:22 AM | 0 Comments

Much like Kempinski, the Waldorf-Astoria Collection from Hilton Hotels is not slowing down their expansion plans. In addition to new hotels in Montreal, Jerusalem, New Orleans, Park City and Sarasota, this morning the collection just announced its plans for Philadelphia at the northeast corner of 15th and Chestnut Streets. From the press release:

Standing at 670 feet tall, the 58-story Waldorf=Astoria Hotel and Residences Philadelphia will be the city's sixth-tallest building as well as its tallest mixed-use hotel and residential project. The classically contemporary granite and glass tower is to be designed by Cope Linder Architects of Philadelphia. As a newly constructed property, the hotel will have a variety of opportunities to support a sustainable footprint.

As evidenced by that last line there, the Waldorf Philly will implement as many green practices as possible, going so far as to hire a LEED consultant on the project.

In total, the building will have 136 pricey residences (starting at around $1 million) and 175 guest rooms. There will also be a 14,000-square-foot spa & Precor(R) Fitness Center with an indoor pool, two cocktail lounges, two restaurants and a seasonal outdoor restaurant and cocktail terrace. That's in addition to all the other services one typically finds at a luxury hotel.

Let's hope that by the time the hotel opens in 2012, America will be back to its old spending self.
