Granted, The Plaza is one of New York City's most historic hotels, celebrated in movies and books, the host of hundreds of to-die-for soirees, and the crib of countless drowsy dignitaries. And the high price tag may be the result of the hotel's multi-million dollar renovations, not to mention a nasty defamation lawsuit.
But you don't have to spend thousands -- or even hundreds -- to cavort like Eloise around this plush hotel. A mere $25 (tip included) should land you a cocktail at The Oak Bar, where you can gaze upon murals depicting Bavarian castles, and rub shoulders with power brokers and celebutantes.
And $60 will get you on the high hog at The Palm Court, where a High Tea will get you some choice oolong herb decanted in Bernadaud-Limogue china, to wash down your own personal platter of dainty finger sandwiches and savories. Tack on an extra $20 and throw it all back with a glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne. Now that's smart money.
