Pick a Hotel in Buenos Aires for Jaunted

October 28, 2008 at 1:55 PM | by juliana | 10 Comments

Jaunted editor Paul Brady has been working and living in a rental apartment in Buenos Aires for the past few months, but the time has come for him to check out a local hotel for us. And since you had so many good suggestions when we stayed in Paris, we want you to do the same thing here.

Just like last time, the hotel that gets the most comments will be the "winner." In return, Paul will send back a full hotel review, complete with a sexy video tour. Ok, maybe not sexy. But you never know!

To get the discussion going, he re-read our Buenos Aires Hotel Guide and has put together a few places that sound pretty good. So start voting for your favorite suggestion in comments below!

· FAENA HOTEL + UNIVERSE

From our BA hotel expert Matt Chesterton:

Like the best candy bars, what you see on the outside (in this case an austere early 20th-century grain silo, scrubbed and spotlit) gives little away as to what lies within (lush damasks and brilliant whites, wardrobes on claws as if ready to pounce, wall-mounted unicorn heads, a bit of Narnia here, a bit of 1940s BA there, and so on).

· 725 CONTINENTAL BUENOS AIRES:

This suggestion actually came from HotelChatter commenter Mareen who offered up this review:

The hotel, which is also featured in the BA Wallpaper guide, seems somewhat starved of resources. Towels were somewhat geriatric though still acceptable, the same was true of the beadspreads....Learn to navigate around the limitations of the hotel and your stay there can actually be quite pleasant, especially since there is nothing pretentious about the hotel or its staff.

· HOME HOTEL

Once again, Matt Chesterton offers up his expert opinion:

There's no doubt that Home is one of the best lodgings in BA, and that every gong slung at owners Tom and Patricia (he's English, she's Argentine) is richly deserved. They put three years of their lives into getting this place open, didn't cut any corners, demanded the best of everything, got lost several times in the jungle of Argentine bureaucracy, eventually hacked themselves out, and are now reaping the rewards and awards.

    Faena all the way

I would normally say the Home Hotel sounds cozy and intimate but hello, you've been living in an apartment for a few months. You need some exotic sexy hotel experience and the Faena will give it to you and give it to you good.

    OBVIOUSLY Faena

Mounted unicorn heads? Hello! Absolutely. See the faucet here? You can re-enact a scene from Billy Madison -- "stop looking at me, swan!" so, really, there should be no contest.

    Faena

When I looked at this photo, I thought for sure you were looking for lodging near Bunker Hill in Charlestown MA.  No?  The obelisk almost always means CTown to me.

    a suggestion...

    from Kelley:

On my past two trips to Buenos Aires, I have stayed at the Hotel Moreno (www.morenobuenosaires.com)I love it! The rooms are like small soho lofts.

    that sounds kind of cool!

    ALVEAR PALACE !!!

I dont understand how anyone visiting buenos aires can not mention The Alvear Palace and worlds greatest hotels in the same sentence. No visit to Buenos aires is complete without checking out the ALvear , a true Argentinian classic for the past 75 years.

    Mariott Plaza

Yeah, Faena is cool but it has creepy "experience managers" and not a central location.  I humbly submit Marriott Plaza for your consideration: gorgeous historic hotel, great location, plus Marriott points!

    Mo Fo Faena

Sure the others provide the basics, but there's something about the Faena that sets it apart.  It looks like it offers a cool vibe and is definitely more unique than the usual chain hotel.  Good luck with this awful assignment!

    Home is the best!

I love the Home Hotel, I completely agree with Matt. It is exceptional in every way and located in the best part of Buenos Aires. I blogged about it myself in the past.
