Stripping Down Kimpton's Dis-Rober

HotelChatter's KatieK gives the Kimpton Disrober newsletter a critique.

Generally speaking, Kimpton Hotels are well-oiled machines (disclaimer: free WiFi + happy hours = a happy HotelChatter writer). So we're not surprised the boutique hotel chain's media e-newsletter, which recently started landing in our inbox, is really pretty good.

But first, the bad news: It has got its share of cheesy PR-speak. Called the "Dis-Rober," the quarterly newsletter describes itself as "a 'revealing' tip sheet for journalists designed to help you 'uncover' all the great stories related to contemporary urban travel…" It could have been sorta 'cute' if they hadn't gone overboard with the quotation marks.

But once you strip the tip sheet down to the good stuff--the news--the Dis-Rober is pretty informative.

The newsletter has requisite story ideas, like the best hotels for election cocktails and a winter ski vacation, plus a tempting recipe for roasted butternut squash and apple soup from chef Heather Terhune at Chicago's Atwood Café.

Our favorite part was definitely the Kimpton inside info. A couple highlights you may be interested in:

· The 107-room Lorien Hotel & Spa in Alexandria, Virginia, is set for completion in February, featuring the area's first destination day spa and three Robert Weidemair foodie spots (restaurant, bistro/wine-tasting room, and wine and cheese retail shop).

· Kimpton guests who book in advance and arrive by train at select Kimpton Hotels get 20 percent off the best available rate with proof of purchased train ticket. This promo is available in San Francisco; all Kimpton hotels in Washington, D.C.; Seattle; Portland, Oregon; Vancouver; Boston; New York City; and Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia.

And at the very end, there's a trivia question that promises prizes for the first five correct journalists (though it's admittedly a pretty thinly veiled promo for their non-profit-benefiting online shop).
