Who Are the Five Best Newbies on the NYC Hotel Scene?

Where: New York, NY

October 23, 2008 at 4:35 PM | 1 Comment

We came across BlackBook's picks for New York's Top Five Hotel Newcomers -- and, well, we got to thinking about what our own picks would be. See, we'd be totally down to agree 100% with BB's list if the headline were, say, the "Top Five Trendiest Hotels in NYC" or something along those lines.

But then again, we're hotel geeks seeing things from a different perspective and, of course, everyone's got their faves. Naturally, we had to speak up and give our own opinion.

After the jump, check out BB's list and, like the annoying kid in class who thinks she knows everything, we added our (extra-picky) insight. Be sure to let us know what you think, too.

1. Gild Hall

The first stylish thing to fall into the South Street Seaport and Financial District orbit since ... uh, ever?

We say: Yes, but it took for-e-ver to open. And the restaurant is kind of weirdly bromantic, isn't it?

2. The Bowery Hotel

Upstairs, it's a loft of your own, crisply appointed with knockout views.

We say: We like it -- yes. But it's been open for a year and a half now! Trendy for sure, but not a newcomer, really.

3. Gramercy Park Hotel

Ian Schrager's remodel trips out on tapestries and velvet, with leather-topped desks for better sex.

We say: Totally agreed, but it opened in 2006. Two years is an eternity in NYC time, isn't it?

4. Greenwich Hotel

The mayor of Tribeca finally gets "hotelier" on his résumé.

We say: Well, HC and the Greenwich have a little bit of a history. Moving on.

5. 6 Columbus

Another address-monikered ultra-swank boutique property from the boys behind 60 Thompson.

We say: While we love us some Six Columbus, Thompson LES is the real knockout newcomer in the Thompson family.

Now that we've had our say, what do you think? Are we totally wrong? Who are the five best newbies on the NYC hotel scene? Chime in!

    what?

Whoa BlackBook, I second your Gild Hall choice but the other 4 are either not "newcomers" or just obvious choices. Be original a little. I'd have to put the Duane Street Hotel on this list.
