Mondrian South Beach Delayed Again? Looks Like It

While hotel delays are expected to be more and more frequent in these gloomy economic times, we kinda hope/thought that the Mondrian South Beach would be beyond all that.

The hotel was expected to open on November 18th, even listing rooms on its website. However, a tipster emailed us late last night with this bit of info:

The Mondrian South Beach isn't opening as scheduled. I had a reservation there and received an ominous phone call from one of the corporate reservation managers. He was reluctant to explain why. I did some more digging. According to a source at the hotel, the postponement is due to construction delays.

We headed on over to the website and it said that reservations were being accepted for on or after November 18th, so everything looks cool. Yet when we tried to plug in a variety of dates for the end of November and December, the website kept saying there was no availability. An ominous sign indeed.
