Yesterday's Page Six featured a macabre item about the death of a young man at the Hollywood Roosevelt who died after swimming in the hotel's pool.

This is tragic enough but Page Six reported that the hotel's management did not want the pool to be drained after the incident because, as the Post's source said, "there was enough chlorine in it to kill the bacteria."

Later the hotel hosted a party where many people, including celebs, were swimming in the pool. However, Stephen Brandman, Thompson COO, told Page Six that the bits about the pool water and hushing hotel staff was just "urban legend."

Nevertheless, this is of great concern to hotel guests and Thompson Hotels sent us a message setting the record straight. The official statement is after the jump.

The official statement from Thompson Hotels:

Last week there was a death surrounding the property of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Out of respect for the family, Thompson has not released the name of the deceased nor any private details.

Unfortunately this morning inaccurate reports regarding the incident occurred. The death in fact was not pronounced at the Hollywood Roosevelt, it was pronounced away from the hotel, only after the individual was taken away by emergency medical staff in an ambulance.

We can assure guests who have used the pool since the incident that proper procedures were taken, and the pool was drained and cleaned once authorities completed their on-site investigation. Thompson Hotels hope that journalists will respect the family during this time of loss and suffering, and share our deepest sympathies.

If you're checking into the Hollywood Roosevelt and still have some concerns or questions, send 'em to us and we'll get them answered.
