There were just a few parties hanging out enjoying the view. You can see the rooftop of Macy's, some urban patios, other mambo office and apartment buildings -- it's breathtaking, even for this jaded New Yorker.
This is a great little hideaway for tourists to get a fierce view of Manhattan's tallest building before popping into the Korean restaurants flanking the hotel. Even bloggers are welcome here too!
As for actually staying overnight in the hotel, this is what we found out. In the elevator on the ride back down, a woman griped that the only ice machine in the building is on the penthouse floor; but she then chimed in that her "family suite," with two bedrooms, was pleasantly enormous and with tons of amenities. (She mentioned the rate was over $500, but the website shows it ranges from $325 upwards, depending on the date).
This is a great little find, only blocks from Grand Central, Penn Station, and the New York Public Library -- about a dozen subway lines, and a stone's throw from 34th St. shopping.
