Leading Hotels of the World $19.28 Promotion Going Off Again This Thursday

October 20, 2008 at 12:12 PM | 2 Comments

Leading Hotels of the World finally posted the fool-proof (maybe) details of their clever and since copied 80th birthday sale.

In case you've been living under a rock for the last month (or not religiously reading HotelChatter--how dare you?!), the sale went thusly: rooms for $19.28 on sale for 80 minutes with no strings attached, server crashed because the whole world wanted in on the deal, everyone got super pissed, CEO promised to renew faith in the brand, LHW posted a top-secret site announcing a new sale, and DUN DUN DUNNNN on Friday they spilled the beans.

Keep reading for all the details of the new contest.

Here's the dealio. The promo will be a full-out repeat with $19.28 hotel rooms on sale for 80 minutes. You'll hit up the now infamous lhw.com/1928 and submit a form with your preferences:

Forms will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Your requests will be fulfilled based on availability. Please remember that rooms and available dates vary among participating hotels. Within seven days, you will be notified via email whether or not your reservation request was fulfilled.

If your reservation has been secured, you will receive an automatically-generated confirmation from The Leading Hotels of the World. Please print a copy of this confirmation as you will need to present it to reception upon your arrival at the hotel along with proof of identity.

Sounds pretty easy, right? Cross your fingers! Oh! And when is the big day? This Thursday, October 23 at 2:00 GMT! (That means 10 am in New York, 7 am in Los ANgeles, 3 pm in London, and 11 pm in Tokyo... so not a totally crazy time for anyone. Nice move.)

Be sure to check out the status page for complete details and participating hotels. Oh, and unlike the first go around, you don't need to be pre-registered to enter. Cheap rooms for all!

    big win

This may look like a big fiasco to most people, but honestly, the whole time, I've seen this as a big win for LHW because they were able to play off the problems as a matter of technical difficulties and not managerial/executive incompetence.  Not only will they book all available rooms, but they will expose themselves to hordes of new people, and they now have name recognition with a large amount of people that previously had no knowledge of them.

    buuuuut...

isn't it recognition that is associated with a really bad first (and eventually second) impression?

i'm not dogging leading, but there's gonna be plenty of people that got shut out initially and will again the second time around.  150,000 people registered for 6,000 rooms.  that sounds like a double punch in the face for 95% of registrants, which could lead to some long term crankyness.
