Leonardo Hotel in Munich Has No Internet

We told you upfront that we were shacking up in the Leonardo Hotel in Munich for two days on our European Vacation and while the hotel itself is not so bad, we're hating the lack of internet.

The hotel has both wireless and cable internet available in the rooms. Naturally, we opted for WiFi. We called the front desk to see how this would work and the clerk said we needed to go downstairs and receive a voucher.

That "voucher" costs 9.90 Euros. Once we had returned to our room, we were all set to start surfing. Except the network, which was able to process our log-in voucher info, was not working. No Google, no Yahoo, no NY Times, no HotelChatter. Nothing.

So we schlepped down to the front desk again and were told: "Oh sorry, the network is not working. It's broken. It will be fixed tomorrow."

Well, it's tomorrow and we still can't get onto the network. Thus we crossed the street to the train station (the hotel does have a killer location near the train station) and hit up the T-mobile hotspot in the Starbucks.

We ended up paying 29 Euros for 30 days. This, we think, works in the U.S. and will definitely work when we head to Barcelona tomorrow. You might be asking why we would pay that much? Well, it was either that or 8 Euros for 60 minutes. Grr....

Now, every time we want to go on the internet we need to get dressed and brave the crowds of people with suitcases and people in traditional Bavarian gear milling about the train station. Double grrr....

    down for good

    With things like internet access, the Germans (while being great people) are notoriously bad for not getting their systems fixed in a reasonable (from an American perspective) amount of time, and after living over there for awhile, I found that they are rarely understanding when you have a problem with their lack of urgency.  I've always figured that European guests just tend to expect less of their hotels so don't get as perturbed when something doesn't work.

    The hotspot sounds like a steal though relative to the price you would've paid at the hotel, so I suppose that's some consolation.

    OMG You're staying by the Hauptbahnhof?! Dude, go across the street to the massive EasyInternetCafe, from the Easy group. That place is like my home away from home! The Mövenpick cafeteria may also have free wifi by now.
