Our dream team: Todd English and Jason Pomeranc.

GQ -- the dude magazine for dudely dudes -- went inside The Libertine Restaurant, Todd English's brand new outpost in NYC's Gild Hall, and found it to be the perfect spot for a lovely, unusual romantic bromantic dinner. Plus, the reporter saw dead people and himself some fried chicken.

Right then!

Apparently, the place has a men's room and not a ladies' room immediately accessible. Whatevs. But it seems he wasn't quite expecting something so...over-the-top and seriously Thompson-esque with the ambiance.

The decor is downright spooky, with black banquettes, black tables, glossy wood paneling, dim lighting, flickering candles, and bookshelves filled with such grim tales as Stephen King's Needful Things. On the walls are Victorian-style wood-cuts, the sort of illustrations you see in houses of horror where the eyes roll as you walk past.

Well duh, dude. We could have told you to expect something unusual. Although we might agree with you that the photos of the dead-looking people hanging up all over the restaurant is a little too much for us, but we'd have to see them ourselves to confirm.

The food -- which is touted as "reinterpreted pub fare" got the thumbs up, and it sounds delicious -- especially the "oversized braised-lamb pot pie that tasted like flavorful, well-cooked, second-day stew topped with a crust."

Oh, and also? It turns out the women are invited into the men's restroom, which have individual compartments inside for the chicas to use. Uh, sexy?

    wing man

i think the real question here is as follows:

when toddy and j-pom hit the town looking for 20somethings with daddy issues, who takes the lead and who accepts the role of wing man?

unisex bathrooms: my dream come true

well, women out there, haven't you ever lamented over the wait to use the ladies' room, while the men just saunter in and out of theirs? ...This is a pretty great thing in my book. Levels out the bathroom playing field.

AND what is so bad about brotherly love anyhow? It's this American view of male friendships that has caused our men to be so- um - male? Go to europe, watch the straightest most womanizing men you've ever met cheek-kiss hello... DOUBLE STANDARD: nobody seems to say "lezzies" when girls hold hands or run off to the bathroom in pairs - behavior which is much more intimate than, say, sharing a meal.
