Leading Hotels of the World Admits Defeat, Returns to the Drawing Board

October 2, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by abigailmschilling | 0 Comments

We spoke too soon. After technical problems caused the original sale to fail, Leading Hotels of the World notified contest registrants that the contest was going to be restaged, this time via email. It all seemed pretty straightforward, they email a form, you fill it out, and then send it back at the right time.

But according to another email from the surely haggard peeps at LHW, the new plan wasn't straightforward enough and caused enough confusion to postpone the contest yet again.

Although our original back-up plan provided a viable solution for the 150,000 people who were registered, it was met with some confusion over submission procedures and timing. In addition, we have become increasingly concerned that a large number of non-registered respondents plan to submit forms which would inundate the system and greatly diminish your chances of securing a USD 19.28 rate.

In view of this, please do not email your form tomorrow. You will most likely receive an error message we have put in place as a safety mechanism.

We are sincerely committed to restoring your faith in our brand and do not want to risk disappointing you again. We are working tirelessly to develop a solution that will be fair for you and all registered participants. We will email you next week with further details. "

We realize that the whole world (literally, all of it) is totes angry about this whole thing and yelling up a storm at President Ted Teng and the rest of the LHW team, but we just feel sorry for them. In an age of increased travel fees and wobbly financial security, they were trying to do something nice. As far too often happens, something nice backfired and now they're looking at the business end of a public nightmare. And they were just trying to celebrate their birthday!

Ted, we got your back, dude. And if you want to give us those $19.28 rooms now, we'll take real good care of them. Promise.
