Royal Hawaiian's $19.27 Deal Sounds Awfully Similar to The Deal of Which We Do Not Speak

Hey, remember Leading Hotels of the World's $19.28 deal? Of course you do! How could you forget? Five-second recap: LHW was offering rooms for $19.28 in honor of their founding year, 1928. Hopeful would-be guests had exactly 80 minutes to snap up the cheap-o rooms ... and then the server crashed and the angry mob got pretty riled up.

We haven't really talked about it since. Things got pretty personal and some major shizz went down. [Relive the magic here].

Because that worked out so well, the Royal Hawaiian is offering a -- wait for it -- $19.27 package to celebrate their post-renovation reopening (their original opening date was in 1927). Ha! Awkward! Ballsy, too.

Except this one might actually work.

There are several difference that go beyond the one penny: the Royal Hawaiian deal is actually not some sort of a clicking contest that has the potential to take down an entire infrastructure. It's really just a deal where they're offering rooms for $19.27 as in, like, the first night is $19.27, and then there's a four-night minimum.

Also, that $19.27 will be donated toward the preservation of "Hawaii's historic sites, precious natural beauty, and indigenous cultural traditions."

Plus, this is more like a package: you get ninner for two at the new Azure Restaurant, two mai tai's and a fun little Hawaiian memento.

And the biggie: you can book your reservation whenevs (instead of waking up early and playing a fruitless clickity-click game for 80 minutes).

The hotel re-opens (as a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel, by the way) in late January, and the package is available from February 1 to June 30, 2009. Reservations can be made here.

    1927 v 1928

Australians will all know that the 1927 deal will go so much better, coz we love that number ... there was an Aussie band in the 90s (80s? nah 90s) called 1927 and the leader singer was damn hot. Therefore, this deal is good. OK?!

    Australians also like Vegemite

    ...which is disgusting. :)

This deal isn't so great. It's $19.27 for one night, $450+ for additional nights, and a four night minimum.

Hardly a great deal for what isn't even the #1 option on the island-- even post refurb.
