Bidder, get ready: Two Times Square, the restaurant on the third floor of the Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square which used to hold the ill-fated Chop Suey restaurant, is (supposedly) up for auction for a private New Year's Eve bash.
Marriott hopes there's still someone left in the world with two pennies to rub together who might pony up at least 150 grand for rights to the restaurant the night the ball drops.
The only problem is there might not be someone out there is this scary economy willing to drop that kinda money on a New Years Eve party. Crains New York quoted the hotel's general manager Thomas Foti:
"The timing is obviously not ideal. But we're thinking that someone from overseas might be interested."
The auction was to begin yesterday on eBay but so far, searches for New Year or Times Square don't turn up anything in the way of party rights.
If you're still going through with it, good luck with that, Marriott. Hope your back-up plan to sell $1,000-a-head dinners works out for you.
