We get lots of hotel reviews from hotel guests. Some are legitimate, some are not. And some are unintentionally funny. This is one of them. Traveler101 got really worked up about the in-room dining menu at the Westin Hotel in Orange County. We aren't knocking his complaint. It's just that this might be the first time that an in-room menu has prompted a guest to write into us.

Just last night I stayed at the Westin South Coast Plaza in Orange County and was shocked at what has happened to Westin recently. I have always loved the brand, its people and its service. However, now I do not know what to think.

The room service menu was the worst I have ever seen. I consider myself a well traveled and an educated person, who enjoys the opportunity to relax without all the fan fare you get at a Fairmont, Ritz or Four Seasons; one reason I have been loyal to Westin for many years.

The in-room dining menu was so full of "fluff" words that carried zero substance and no direct meaning to the food being advertised, it simply lead to confusion.

It was the type of menu one would expect in an upper scale restaurant that comes with a snotty server to explain what they are trying to say. It was like reading a Congressional bill, full of irrelevant double speak in terms that I have not heard anyone use in standard business language.**

The second issue was the Westin Workout; it was closed due to high winds. It seems that they have the entire workout facility outside.....not sure why that makes sense in a location where it does rain, does get chilly and more often than not the air quality is not all that healthy.

I am not sure where the Westin team got off track, but they would do good to add some common sense to what they do.

**Ed. Note: On the bright side, the hotel offers 24-hour room service.

Spent a night or two at the Westin South Coast Plaza? Let us know how it went.

    An example?

I'm not sure what exactly this reviewer is referring to. I was at the Westin SCP not too long ago and had a great breakfast their (Westin seems to have healthier options than most chains). I ordered room service and don't remember being confused by anything.

If the guest is calling the menu full of fluff, confusing, snotty, and full of irrelevant double speak you would think that an example or two is in order.

    in-room menu

The in-room dining menu at the hotel could not be easier to comprehend.  Many of the items are organized by intro, next, green, main course, main course accompaniments, and end.  There are also children's breakfast choices and just plain lunch and dinner selections.

The Westin Workout facility is inside, but accessed by walking past the pool on the terrace level.  The surounding area, which was being re-landscaped, was closed recently due to unusually high winds that made the area potentially dangerous for guests.
